Home Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Assessors

Scorecard was developed by Victorian Government to assess and compare homes in all climate zones. It is a home energy rating program which will give your home star rating much like most home appliances are now rated. The rating reflects running costs to keep the house comfortable. The certificate also includes suggestions how to make energy saving improvements cost effectively.

What happens during a Scorecard assessment?

  • An accredited assessor will visit your home to conduct a thorough on-site assessment. They collect data covering room sizes, construction materials, window type, placement and furnishings, insulation, your hot water system, heating, cooling, lighting and any renewable energy sources.

  • The assessment includes taking photographs of household energy features for quality assurance purposes. The Scorecard’s purpose-built software means the results are instantly accessible so you will get immediate feedback from the assessor.

What does the Scorecard review?

A Scorecard assessment looks at:

Building shell:

  • wall, floor and ceiling materials
  • insulation
  • windows and eaves
  • gaps and cracks

Fixed features:

  • heating and cooling
  • hot water
  • lighting
  • curtains and external blinds
  • solar panels
  • pools and outdoor spas

What will you get out of it ?

At the end of the assessment the assessor will provide your home’s star rating and you can view your Scorecard certificate.

The certificate will also be sent to you later, after quality checks have been completed.

Your certificate:

  • shows your home’s star rating out of 10
  • shows where your energy is being used
  • rates the efficiency of various elements of your home, such as the building itself and major appliances
  • rates the performance of your home in hot and cold weather
  • provides practical options to improve your home’s energy efficiency.

The star rating is independent of household habits – it doesn’t take into account whether you leave the lights on, for example – but you can talk to your assessor about other things you can do to reduce your energy use.
